A break from the day to day routine is always a good thing but I think I speak for most people that whether it be getting the kids back to school after a half term or summer break or returning from a holiday, it always feels good to get back to some sort of "normality", I know i feel that way!
Exercise sometimes feels like it is an add on to our lives and some people even feel guilty taking time out to train because there is so much going on around them that they simply find it hard to juggle everything...!!
But did you know that exercise can actually help you with your routine, we've all been there, whether it was a great session down the gym or just a lovely brisk walk along one of the beautiful beaches here in Marbella or anywhere in the world...the feeling that you get afterwards should be one of exhilaration and this is no coincidence as the brain releases a substance called serotonin, its the feel good chemical and its a bit like climbing a mountain and reaching the top and taking in the beautiful views and really appreciating what you have achieved....it feels GREAT!!
In my 28 years of teaching and training clients all over the world there is nothing better than seeing a satisfied student leave the dojo with a smile on there face (maybe a little hot a sweaty) and thanking me for a great class! I sometimes forget that I am also in the "make people feel good business"
You see there are several messages that a decent martial arts instructor and fitness coach (I say that as there are alot of bad ones about!) should be trying to get across on a lesson and most of these are not so quite obvious, actually we try to trigger your subconscious to accept what we are trying to teach instead of actually telling you outright!
Im going to do this in two parts as I think I could go on forever!! Tune in tomorrow for the next bit!

There is no better rush than the feeling you get after a good workout. I incorporate exercise into my daily routine. It´s just like brushing my teeth. Whether or not I like it I have to do it. And the feeling is great.
I am now working on this philosophy with my kids and hopefully when they become adults they´ll just "do it" and wake up every morning with an exercise routine or after work power walk. Whatever it is that turns them on whether its martial arts or dance I hope they will always incorporate exercise into their daily routine. It´s their health and wellbeing and it´s really really important.
