Just come back from an awesome weights training session at the gym, Ive had a few days off as Ive been doing some sparing with the guys in the dojo and didn't want to burn myself out (at my age!!) anyway, as im getting into the gym i see two young girls going into the empty gym room next to the weights room, I couldn't help notice how they held themselves, very upright, with pride and an air of confidence about themselves. It turns out that they had a ballet class to attend to....
Got me thinking about martial arts and self defence training, how we hold ourselves in the eyes of an attacker or a bully, we teach all our students to look confident at all times, to look the other person in the eyes, don't be distracted!!
Martial arts training is so much more than hitting and getting hit, blocks and strikes and katas, learning new moves to defend yourself is such a small part of training (I know that sounds mad, but at least at the very beginning it is) but in reality you can be the best person on the mat but outside in a real life situation if you havnt been taught correctly you might have well been better going to cake making classes..coz it aint gonna do you any good whatsover!!
That also brings me to another subject about getting graded, but I will save that to another time!

I totally agree with you, Carl. I´ve noticed that my kids hold themselves up higher since they´ve taken your class. Their confidence has definitely improved thanks to all your hard work. Thank you so much!
