Women's martial arts classes in Marbella Part 2
This is the second article about women’s martial arts classes in Marbella and I wanted to try and explain the difference in teaching martial arts to women as opposed to men. In reality I think women should be pushed as hard as men if they take up a martial art, there are of course exceptions to the physical aspects of taking a strike that I was taught not to do to a woman, i.e. deliver full power strikes to a women’s stomach or chest area, there are also differences in size and strength with a lot of women to men but not all the time if you pair your students well.
So in my experience in teaching martial arts to women over the 28 years I don’t think I have changed my methods of teaching, in fact I think I have made the women work just that little bit harder...why? because if anything, the women who have attended any of my classes have really enjoyed the fitness element of what we do and how we do it but they always felt more vulnerable to an attack than the guys, this is obviously only my own experience and we have had exceptions where a lady has really wanted to learn an art above anything but when you take my into account that the style I teach is purely self defensive Ju Jitsu it sort of works out the same thing.
So how do you know which martial art is for you? Depends what you’re really looking for, is it a style that will help you build speed and strength, is it a style that will help you focus and stay motivated, is it a style that will above everything else teach you to defend yourself?? Well if the answer to all of them is YES!! You need to be talking to us about your motivation to take up a martial art that will tick all of those boxes!
