Someone left a comment on my page yesterday and to be honest I was quite happy to leave it on however Nicky who is mentoring me on all things online marketing advised me to remove it, so I did! (I'm a good student!!) However I just wanted to go over what he said, he basically accused me of using the blog to boost my business!!!.....errrr, he was absolutely spot on!!
If you ask me what type of blogger I am I would definitely say I was a commercial blogger (if there is such a thing!!), I don’t see that this is wrong, I'm not the type of guy who wears his heart on his sleeve and tells the world about his day, I’d rather stay positive and tell people who want to read my blog how things are going in my academy, every now and again I may have a gripe about something but its normally about work and work related.
So, if you`re looking for blood sweat and tears form me......WRONG!! It aint happening!!

Hi, I am not sure the comment was criticising how you use your blog and what content you put up.
The person in question came to your blog by clicking on the link of it that I posted on Twitter.
By sharing your blog post that mentioned me in it, I was effectively promoting not only you but myself since the comments were positive.
The result, as you know, was a boost in traffic, increased networking for you and business enquiries for me.
It is OK to use any social media tool as a form of self promotion. However, in my humble opinion, self promotion becomes ineffective if it is done all the time.
However, as a rough guideline, if 10% of your content is about you, or your products and the rest information for your readers, industry news, product reviews etc, then you create a profile about yourself, how you think, what you do - which is far more a personal "profile" than what you had for breakfast type blogs - and your readers RELATE to you. If they relate to you, your self promotion blogs will not fall on deaf ears.
Nicky
