I was driving around Marbella late last night, as most of you know my martial arts academy is close to La Canada near to the old town, but i was actually in the port and going up to Nueva Andalucia. It was about 11.30pm and the area that I was driving through was dimly lit and a couple were arguing on the go, they looked sober but the guy was very threatening to the woman just by his body language, not violent, just intimidating, it was obvious that they where a couple as they were both carrying shopping bags and to all intense and purposes it just looked like a petty argument over nothing more than he had more bags than her and maybe she was having a moan, wild guess, not sexist at all!! :) But it does bring up the question "at what point would you intervene and what do you actually think the outcome will be for your interference?"
I made a few observations just as I went past them in the few short seconds, they must have been a couple as they looked domesticated, ie, laden with mercadona bags, and she was giving as good as she got! god knows were they had been shopping til 11.30pm, then I thought, obviously they had not been shopping till that late as the shops are not open, so they must have been for a drink, maybe they were slightly tipsy, on the way home, hands full of shopping and something was said! Both were still carrying the bags and there was no sign of them being put down and for a brawl to take place......so....I slowed down for a second, made my observations and drove on!!
Martial arts training and self defence training should teach you that its not wrong to intervene in something that you think could get out of hand, but it also teaches you to use common sense and to read the situation properly before getting involved and putting yourself at risk!!
